It took the Bowling Green men's soccer team 331 minutes, 55 seconds to score a goal this season. However, when the ball finally did hit the back of the net, an offensive explosion was to follow.
Over this past weekend the Falcons once again headed south, this time to the Central Arkansas Tournament. They faced a tough task, as it was their third trip south of the Mason Dixon line in as many weeks.
The weekend was to be an eventful one for the Falcons though.
"It was a dramatic comeback," Head Coach Fred Thompson said.
His words summed up both of the Falcons victories perfectly.
In the tournaments opening game, the Falcons faced off against Centenary, a team they were favored to beat. Still, after 60 minutes of action, the Falcons once again found themselves being shutout, down 2-0. The final 30 minutes however, saw a completely different game.
"We just stuck with it, kept trying, and scored some goals," Thompson said.
The Falcons' first goal of the season reached the back of the net in the 62nd minute of play after Chuko Evwaraye took advantage of an assist from Cameron Hepple.
Hepple's day didn't end there, as he nailed a free kick in the 75th minute, giving the Falcons the tie.
"I was pleased, Cameron did very well," Thompson said.
Not soon after Hepple's game tying score, Bowling Green completed their comeback, when, in the 82nd minute, Evwaraye scored on an unassisted goal to give the Falcons the win.
After going 331:55 without a score this season, it took the Falcons all of 19:09 to erase all the negativity on offense.
Along with winning the game, Evwaraye emerged as a late game star for Bowling Green. He has five career goals; four of them have been game-winners.
The Falcons faced a quick turn around though, with their next game against hosting Central Arkansas scheduled to start the next day.
Last year UCA came to BGSU and battled the Falcons all game, eventually losing to BG in double overtime by a score of 1-0.
