WomeCas studies, joined by their alumnus, will be celebrating their 30th anniversary with their reception starting at 4 p.m. today in the Union.
The 10/30/100 celebration highlights the anniversary of The Women's Center, women's studies and women on campus.
"We wanted to celebrate and use this as an opportunity to get in touch with our alums and get them back on campus," said Vikki Krane, director and graduate coordinator of women's studies.
This celebration will also provide facts about the University's history.
"Every activity or event will give information and people will get a sense of pride," said Rona Klein, English lecturer.
Anyone interested is invited and encouraged to attend this free event.
We want everyone to have a good time and enjoy it, we have wonderful speakers, said Klein.
First beginning as an idea to celebrate the anniversary of The Women's Center, the celebration was expanded to recognize different women anniversaries.
"We're honoring the history of women at BGSU," said Mary Krueger, director of The Women's Center.
Many people do not know the first class at the University was all women because the University used to be a teacher training school.
"Women weren't allowed in schools except teaching training schools," said Krueger. "Our first athletes were women."
On Saturday morning a series of events to honor various histories on campus is scheduled.
"It's important to recognize our past and show our appreciation," Krane said. "We want to celebrate with everyone who's helped get us [women] where we are."
There will be alumni panels, including a panel dealing with careers in activism, linking current students to the alumnus.
This particular panel will focus on future actions with women and demonstrate how a woman's focus can be helpful professionally.
The panels are important because they demonstrate the struggle and progression women have undergone. We need to include women's contributions in our history, Krane said.
This two day event is being hosted by The Women's Center and women's studies.
It will highlight the fight for recognition of women.
"They were fighting for the creation of a women's center [on campus] and the creation of a women's major," Krane said.
