Originally - four years before she was set to play the final home game of her great career against Buffalo - point guard Kate Achter wasn't convinced she wanted to enroll at BG.
A number of her classmates were heading there and she wanted to head in a different direction. She was also drawing interest from other Mid-American Conference schools such as Miami, Kent State and Eastern Michigan.
But after one meeting with the women's basketball team at an unofficial campus visit, she was hooked. Achter had to be a Falcon.
"I just fell in love with the school," Achter said. "Initially, I didn't want to come here because a lot of kids from my area came and I wanted to branch out as best I could. But there was no way I could do that after I met the team."
On the eve of her final home contest, guard Whitney Taylor still vividly remembers the first time she put on a BG uniform.
In her first college game at Anderson Arena, the crowd was sparse, but to Taylor, it felt like a million eyes were watching.
She described her first experiences as part of head coach Curt Miller's program as amazing.
"I was so excited [to put on a BG jersey]," Taylor said. "I remember putting on my high school jersey for the first time and then coming to this. It was totally 100 percent better… It was so exciting being a freshman in that atmosphere."
It's been four years since both players' college careers started. Now, Achter is the team's weathered floor general who can post scores and assists in double digits, and Taylor, who set a school record for consecutive three-pointers made earlier this year, has served as a gritty leader and sharpshooter off the bench.
They also comprise the most successful class in the history of the MAC with 104 wins. In their four years playing under Miller, their record in conference play is 55-7. In that span, they've won the MAC three times and played in three NCAA tournaments.
It's been four years since Achter and Taylor took the floor for the first time, and tomorrow they will play host to Buffalo in what will be their final home game at Anderson Arena.
