The countless billboards, commercials and flyers tell us that the University is all about YOU. Student Voice is the latest project that aims to provide a dialog between students and faculty and staff. Student Voice is a monthly documentary news-style program that will be on the University's Web site and made into DVDs.
Celebrating Black history through song

The voices chime together in a melody "Follow the drinking gourd, follow the drinking gourd, for the old man is a-waitin' to carry you to freedom, follow the drinking gourd." These are the words to the chorus of a song titled "The Drinking Gourd" and was sung to a group of elementary students by Courtney Cleveland, DeAnna Patterson, LaRiche' Jones, Marcus Bedinger, Joshua Jones and Dean Bryson, students of the College of Musical Arts.
Native American fashion exhibit

The Wood County Historical Museum plans to take a historical look at the fur and featherful fashions of Native Americans. Richly Dressed, Handsome in Appearance is part of a monthly curator series that looks at early Native Americans in the Maumee Valley and their styles of dress.
Couples say 'I do' at Freedom to Marry Day

Vision, the University's GLBTQ student organization, celebrated National Freedom to Marry Day yesterday. The event was supposed to occur on Feb. 12, the recognized day, but the snow days prevented the event from occurring. In 1997, Evan Wolfson, a civil rights attorney, founded National Freedom to Marry Day to spread awareness about the rights that same-sex partners lack.
Sherwin and Slatkin receive Univ. honorary degrees for achievements

Recipients of honorary degrees at the University must be prominent in a particular area and have a strong connection to BGSU. Martin J. Sherwin and Maestro Leonard Slatkin are the most recent individuals to be awarded an honorary degree at the University.

Monday 8:04 a.m. Warrant issued for Matthew E. Wittenmyer, 28, of Bowling Green, for a theft from Polleyes on East Court Street on Dec. 15, 2005. 9:12 a.m. Jason C. Hall, 34, of Bowling Green, arrested for assault after he was reported being violent with a woman and kicking passing cars at Parkview Drive and North Main Street.
Union art galleries to transform into larger main room to exhibit student creations

The Union art galleries will fuse into one practical showcase, upgrading to exhibit student creations as soon as the start of fall semester. The proposed arrangement will add flow and spaciousness to the separate rooms by introducing a connecting archway, along with an exposed ceiling and upgraded halogen track lighting.
New York offers growth for an artist

To be an artist is a great struggle, but to be a great artist and have your name be known is still a greater struggle. Junior art education major Amber LeFever traveled to Hunter College in New York City as a part of the National Student Exchange program offered here at BGSU.
Authentic African cuisine takes students on a gastric journey

Founders dining hall celebrated Black History Month yesterday by hosting an African heritage luncheon featuring authentic African recipes. Linda Duda, assistant general manager of dining services, said they celebrated with African American cuisine last year, but this year they decided to step away from soul food and offer dishes that come straight from Africa.
Bringing local youth together

The first Youth United Way in Ohio is taking shape to bring college and high school students together to make a difference in the greater Toledo area. Gary Braylock, Youth United Way coordinator, is working to spread the word about how to get involved in this start up project.
